Ayla Akat Ata

Ayla Akat Ata was born in Diyarbakır on 16 February 1976. She completed her education in Diyarbakır. In 1997, she graduated from the Law Faculty at Dicle University. In 1998, she started to work as a lawyer registered to the Diyarbakır Bar Association. She took part in the Children's Rights Commission whitin the Bar Association. Between 2000-2002, she worked at the Diyarbakır Branch of Human Rights Association (HRA) for which she also served as a member of the Headquarter Honorary Board. She took part in the Women’s Commission and Commission on the Struggle Against Torture and Ill-Treatment. She served as a member of the Honorary Board of the HRA Headquarter for a while. She took part in the Project for “Legal Aid Against Sexual Harassment and Rape in Custody”. In 2000, she took an active role in the establishment of the Diyarbakır Women's Platform. She served as an MP for Batman in the 23rd and 24th term of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
She was a member of the Justice commission, the Constitutional Commission, and the Commission for the Equal Opportunities for Men and Women. Between 2011 and 2012, she served as Vice Chairman of the Political Party Group in Assembly. She was appointed as her party representative to the ’New Constitution Reconciliation Commission”, which was established under the chairmanship of the President of the Parliament, with the equal representation of the political parties under the roof of Parliament. On January 3, 2013, she participated in the first political delegation to Imralı Island within the scope of the Democratic Solution Process.
Later, she served as the President of the Kongreya Jinên Azad (Free Women's Congress), for which she has continued to participate as a member in the political delegation to Imralı Island. She is one of the founders of the Dicle Amed Women Platform and Rosa Women's Association. She is married and has a child
