Since October 2024, Turkey has entered a new phase of its peace process. The Turkey Antenna of the Mediterranean Women Mediators’ Network (MWMN) has engaged actively by meeting with key actors in the process, including leaders of political parties represented in the national assembly.

Following the PKK’s symbolic decommissioning, a parliamentary commission was formed to draft DDR policies. Members of the Turkey Antenna also held discussions with several members of this commission.

The purpose of these visits was twofold: to emphasize the importance of ensuring women’s meaningful participation in peace processes, and to share the expertise and skills of the network with key stakeholders. The Antenna also reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the design and implementation of social peace initiatives at the local level.

In March, members of the Antenna met with Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and head of the commission.
In May, they continued their outreach with visits to Özgür Özel, leader of the main opposition party CHP (Republican People’s Party), and Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları, the co-chairs of the opposition DEM (Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party).
During our most recent visit to Ankara as a delegation, we met with members of the New Path Group of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, as well as AK Party Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala.

We will continue our work on women’s participation in the peace process.
